Thereafter, Charné was employed at FAMSA, which included working therapeutically with children, adults and families. He worked as a Secretary of Department of Finance appointed Mouton & Smith Committees (Reported in 1992 & 1996) on future of pensions industry. He became the President of Actuarial Society of South Africa 1998.

Since his retirement in 1999 he has undertaken forensic actuarial work for High, Appeal and Constitutional Courts. He is a founding Chair and Member of Actuarial Governance Board (2007-15).

He is a resident at Pinewood Serve on Committee advising Chief Nursing Sister and is currently trying to understand dynamics of Life Right finances.
