Her career started at The Association for the Aged (Tafta) in 2006 working in procurement. Not long after she was promoted to Head of Department for the Operations department at Tafta. This portfolio included procurement, maintenance and health & safety. In 2011, Vanessa spear headed the launch of a new service at Tafta called Ageing in Place which facilitated the older person’s wish to live safely and comfortably in their own homes. Starting a new business venture was a challenge that Vanessa thrived on. In 2012, she was promoted to the executive at Tafta taking up the role of Divisional Manager of Operations. This portfolio included projects at the company, information technology and contracts. Vanessa continued with Ageing in Place as well. She presented a paper on Ageing in Place at the All Africa IAGG conference in 2012.
In 2015 Vanessa was chosen to project manage the development of an ambitious strategic plan for Tafta which aimed to create sustainability for years to come.
