Challenges and opportunities of the Older Person’s Act
Syd has had an extensive career that in a long list of accomplishments includes being a member of the Investigating team of the SA Human Rights Commission to determine the status of Older Persons in South Africa and co-author of the report till 2016. He assisted with establishing the Senior SANGALA Programme -a national program to promote Active Ageing in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation between 1997—2003. He was
Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the International Year for Older Persons in 1999. Syd was a member of the Ministerial Committee on the abuse of older persons during 2000-2003; a member of the technical committee for Act 13/06 and Regulations—2004/5 and currently. A consultant for retirement village development and on ageing matters under Consult Age from 2002 to date.
